Killing Gods first draft nearly done

Yes, I’m well aware I’m tempting fate by writing that post title, but I think it’s almost there.

Funny thing is I’m nowhere near my 120,000 word target. No particular reason for that choice, that’s just how long Powerless ended up being (well, a touch over 125k actually).

Half of me feels like I must write more, get at least 100k words in there, otherwise I’ve short changed my readers and myself, but then the other half of me thinks that a story is as long as it needs to be to tell the tale.

I’ve still got two chapters to finish (another 3000 words maybe), then some research detail to fill in a few blanks, but no more than 1000 words there. I’ll probably only just reach 95k for the first draft.

Of course I’m going to do an edit after that, but that’s usually chunks of text moving around or altered as opposed to added or removed, so the total word count won’t budge that much.
