Approaching half-way
Just about half way through Killing Gods, the sequel to Powerless. Had to take a break over the ComicCon weekend and a few days afterwards to recover, but back into it now.
I’ve been researching into other SF/Fantasy cons and book events to see if any are suitable to go to. Seems to be quite a few, mostly clustered in March/April and August-November. Sent some emails off to see if dealers tables are available and will update you here if I decide to head off to any. Do let me know of any Cons you think would be suitable; looking for more SF and book fairs as opposed to the Memorabilia and TV/specialist events.
Also been politely harrassing Amazon to get Powerless in the correct categories. It turns out that when you upload your book the categories you can choose from are the print book ones only and quite limited. The Kindle book categories are more varied and actually have a special category for ‘Superhero’. There is NO WAY for the author/publisher to set this when they upload their book. You have to set certain keywords and contact Amazon directly to ask if they can sort it for you.
Surely the best solution would be to use the Kindle categories on the submission page (since you are using the Kindle Developer Program after all), then if you want to link your paperback book you set the categories for that separately? More control to authors and less work for Amazon support as they deal with “Why doesn’t my book show under…” queries from hundreds of independent authors. As a side note to this, I’ve had my US category changed and within a few days got 2 sales after weeks of nothing. Hardly scientific I know, but I’ll wait and see whether it has any continuing upwards effect.
