What’s next?
Right, so I’ve been planning out the third book and it looks like it’s going to be pretty big. 86 chapters on first pass, although I think I can combine a few of those down to somewhere closed to 80. But that’s big! Powerless was 53 chapters in total, and over 120k words. Using maths, that puts the third one somewhere around 180k words.
Both Powerless and Killing Gods took me a year each, so I had been hoping to speed things up a bit with the next one. But given this prospective word count, it doesn’t look like I would get it finished until at least Autumn 2015! Now, I really wanted to release something before then, so I’ve been having to look at some other ideas of mine.
The plan is, while I work on book three, I will also be writing some short stories. There are two linked ones I want to do about Hayley from the Powerless world, but I also have ideas for a collection of stories, similar to Making Gods [free on Smashwords!] but longer. I have outlines for ten atmospheric shorts, and have already half-written one of them.
Also I quite fancied writing a novella length book, something a bit lighter and funnier than the superhero world I’ve created. There is an old idea of mine for a TV or YouTube mini-series (yes, that’s right, I come up with ALL sorts of ideas) which I think I can transfer to a series of 20-30k length books. If I can make it work, then I would like to have either the short story collection or the novella out by next June, with book three to follow for Xmas.
But you know the story about best laid plans, right? Good, that’s one less I’ll have to write 🙂
