Self-Pub Info – Free Book Week Stats
I just did a 5-day free promotion for two of my books: The Resurrection Tree and Other Stories and Higgs & Soap: Galaxy Delivery. For those interested in that sort of thing, here’s the breakdown of downloads:
- Resurrection Tree – US: 116, UK: 10
- Higgs & Soap – US: 170, UK: 19
The first obvious thing to note – Americans love free book deals! I have noticed this before when I’ve done similar time-limited free offers. Of course, most of it is because the main places I advertise (Kindle forums and Reddit (Twitter and Facebook click-throughs are negligible)) are US-based and US-centric. But even when I don’t advertise a free offer anywhere, I still get significantly more downloads in the US than the UK – and I don’t know why. Perhaps there is higher visibility of free, or recently free books in the US Kindle store? Would be cool to find out.
The second thing is that Higgs & Soap did better than The Resurrection Tree even though they were advertised equally. My only theory is that short story collections generally don’t sell as well as single works of fiction, and I do recall seeing some data on this which backed this up. So maybe that carries through even to free books.
Not included in this data is a scattering of 1 or 2 downloads in the likes of Australia, Canada, India and Brazil – so hello to you guys 🙂
Even so, it’s still decent numbers, and I’ve already had one person read all the way through Higgs & Soap (I am watching you!), so here’s hoping some new reviews will be round the corner along with some new fans!
Tony.
