Powerless sequel – slow progress

I’ve been slowly turning my head to a sequel to Powerless since March but this one is taking its time to trickle out of my ears.

For a start it’s more complicated in terms of structure. Powerless was pretty straightforward in narrative structure; it jumped back and forth in time between the main character in two settings. The sequel is chronological for a start, features several different groups of characters (one of which is Martin and his friend Hayley from the first book), and complex themes and relationships between them that I spent weeks planning out in a flowchart to make sure they made sense and didn’t contradict each other.

Also I am still writing this while working full time with which I’ve just come out of a busy two month period, and at the moment a bit too much of my spare time is taken up with unavoidable “house stuff”. After the incredible feeling of accomplishment having completed the first book, I just wanted to spend all my time writing. But of course I couldn’t, and I guess some of that frustration boiled over into apathy* i.e. I know I will never be able to devote as much time to writing as I would like, so why bother?

I’m still invested in the characters, and the story I’ve come up with is very twisty, and all sorts of turny so I like it even now. Just got to bend my head down and get as much done in the few brief snatches of time I can find…

*Yes, for me, frustration boils over into apathy… I guess you could say I’m quite a laid-back sort of person 🙂

    Hi Steve,
    Glad you enjoyed the book.
Hope you didn’t spot _too_ many howlers in there, but if you did I would be very grateful if you could let me know the worst so I can do a quick fix 🙂
    Thanks,
    Tony.
